Droidcam and Other Commands

Things that I’ve had to use in these modern CoVid-19 times.

Zoom, Skype, video conferencing. It all requires a camera, and I don’t have one for my desktop. And I don’t want to go out and buy one. So, I’ll use my phone via Droidcam.

However, their homepage contains inaccurate information regarding how to configure it. It’s a fairly simple proceadure, which I’ll show some of it here for future reference.

Testing Droidcam Resolutions

Unless you get the paid version in the app store, you’re stuck to 640x480. However you can have it scale the video which will at least remove the pixels to a degree.

? unload the module

sudo rmmod v4l2loopback_dc ? test resolution loading back in sudo modprobe v4l2loopback_dc width=800 height=600

Width/Height may be whichever you wish, but for me, 800x600 is good enough. Just keep the aspect ratio to 4:3 if you use the free version.

The above is a temporary edit. I’d load it into a script that auto-runs upon statup for your system. There’s more than likely a way to make it easier, but I’m lazy, and will only do what is needed for myself.
